A Cure: Laughter

On Saturday, which i had intended to write about on Saturday, but did not, we had people over.

The morning started early for me, I was getting over a sickness, but Laura had called the night before asking that we go around and try out the yardsales as it was the community yardsale. While I expected it to be horrible, Laura expected it to be wonderful. Well, it wasn't and she was getting very annoyed. It would have been funny if I hadn't been so tired.
"This is dissapointin! What do we do now?" she asked and I smiled.
"Iced coffee?" I said and she grinned.
"Why not." We drove and got our iced coffee's and then went and got bagels and sat there and talked and it was a nice thing to do. I hadn't just sat and talked to anyone in what felt like forever and in the warmth of a forever lasting morning... it was comforting. To know that the entire world was still moving without us, but we, suspended in that moment, were perfectly happy to let it pass us by.
We then headed home and Laura hung out with us. We had soccer practice that we didn't know about.
"Girls, you have soccer at 12!" Mom notified us at 12, which was funny and Laura ran home and I picked her up soon after. We had the windows down and it was such a beautiful day and I was excited to finally do something productive with myself. But when we got to our practice field little people were getting ready for a game and Laura was grinning and shaking her head.
"It's canceled, isn't it?" she asked. I had absolutly no idea. We have another field that we sometimes practice at. This one I call Hickville because you go through farm country randomly and come upon new houses and a school just as soon. We drove through the country and were singing to country, which you don't realize is ironic until you are doing this, and the field was...deserted, completely empty.
"What do you want to do now?" She just shrugged and I laughed. We called Michelle and she confirmed that Couch had sent out an e-mail at 12:13 saying that practice was cancelled. Shout out to couch and his time management skills! I decided that we should go to Our Park. We call it Our Park because there is litterally no destintion that it exists and no one ever goes there. It is a wayward piece of empty fields and a tree line in the distance with an old broken cirlce of a fence that must have been for training horses and a dying barn that still holds the past in it's timbers. Its beautiful, silent, quiet, far away and different. It's a place that both of us would like to claim our own and sit under its ample shade and eat from a basket while dreaming of the future. And we do. Almost. We sit and think and talk and watch the wind make the wheat bow at its will while the clouds race across the sky.
When we got home Caroline was there and we hung out for awhile.
Our evening wasn't planned and sparatically we decided to invite Maddy, Jusitn, and Meghan M., and Chris to our allready accumulated group of four. There was a heavy stiff air swirling around the house and we knew a storm was brewing. Me and Laura went and sat out by the car, Laura got up and began to dance to her own made up music and I was laughing at her when all of a sudden this fantastic streak of lightening illuminates the sky and Laura screams bloody hell and leaps into my arms and shrieks until she is laughing hyerstically. We are both rolling with laughter and Chris comes out wondering who screamed. Laura proudly owns up to this and we all sit and watch the storm come to pound down on us.
It took awhile for the rain to fall on us, and eventually everyone was out of the house standing there watching the sky fall towards us, hearing as up the street it poured and raced for our dry skin. It was at that point that you realize knowone is going to run from the rain; so we danced in it. We all gripped eachothers hands and danced and sang stupid songs that knowone could quiet remember and we screamed when the thunder rolled and the lightening stuck and laughed at ourselves, but mostly Laura. We did what I had always been too afraid to do; We danced in a thunderstorm, so close to the idea of living that we almost had to scream out of fright, but also out of joy. Me, I screamed out of love. Love for the rain that soaked me, love for the people that held me, and love for the God that made me. Oh, and love for the feet that made me dance.
The rain continued and we began an intense and semi-painful game of capture the flag which resulted in the quiting of the other team and the giving up as the light faded and everyone got cold. We went inside and got pounds of junk food from...ahem... my room and sat around playing polker, but mostly talking about things. It was nice, different, a good thing. You don't realize your smiling until you frown and you don't realize your frowning till you laugh.
Sunday consisted of church, homework, and the play. The play, while important and good, is not my point of mentioning this. It's the kissing of the stage. This moved me. This made me realize that all good things end and that life moves forward. You can catch up a moment as much as you want to, but it's never going to last longer than it should. And that moment as each Senior bent down and kissed away their past; it was moving. We all have to find a way to do it, amidst cheering crowds, maybe not; with tears in our eyes, always.
And now Monday. Advice: don't read 1984 if you have intentions of being a rebel. It just about kills you. Music: Matt Nathonson; Lady Antebellum. Books: The Host A Cure: Laughter.

The quote of the day:
The ground only catches those that dare to defy it.
