This Say Fair

This Say Fair

Ribbons and lace,
Curls and white-faced
Courtiers, all in a row,
They bow out and curtsy low,
So noses touch the gilded floor and rainbows throw
From dangling madalions of King Henry's ancient hold.

Love and lies,
Innocence dies
In fair maidens, tightly kept,
Like rain clouds and tears fast wept,
As they spill and break their driven needs
On the ground in front of an alter on broken knees.

Ugly and fair
A humbled pair
Of brazen burning eyes,
The patronizing lisps in gentle sighs,
When the rich peel out heady laughter grown dull
In the chiming of midnights deathly bells that toll.
